The steering spindle has a crash deformable section formed as an undulating tube where the wall thickness in each peak (18) or trough (16) reduces from at least one of the layers (14, 15) which make up the tube over the peak and trough area between the side facing the adjoining cardan joint and the side of the undulating tube remote from the adjoining cardan joint. The wall thickness of at least one of the layers is at least less in the region of a peak than in the adjoining trough area. Independent claim describes method for manufacturing steering column where undulating tube is formed by providing corrugations in at least two tubes which are fitted in each other before providing the corrugations. |
