PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a can which prevents defective coating on a can barrel part. SOLUTION: A first rotary body 10 provided with protruded bodies 11, etc., extending in the axial direction at intervals in the peripheral direction on the outer periphery face, and a second rotary body 20 provided with groove parts 21, etc., extending in the axial direction having the width and interval corresponding to the protruded bodies 11, etc., on the outer peripheral face are supported rotatably about mutually parallel rotation axes. The method for forming the can forms a can C of a bottomed cylindrical shape in such a way that the peripheral face of a barrel part is arranged along the outer peripheral faces of the rotary bodies 10, 20, and the barrel part of the can C is pressed from the inner peripheral face side and the outer peripheral face side by the outer peripheral faces of the rotary bodies 10, 20 so as to form flat parts extending one after another in the axial direction toward the peripheral direction on the barrel part. After forming a small-width flat part I of which the width is smaller than the width of the flat part, flat parts of the width same as that of the flat part are formed one after another, and afterward the small-width flat part I is formed to the flat part of the width same as that of the other flat part by pressing it to a ridge line part L constituting the small-width flat part I.
