An upright bucket (2) is supplied by an endless conveyor (7) one at a time. A gripper (9) grips and tilts the bucket over the upper end (10) of the lifting column (8) and places it on a positioning device. The gripper scrapes and moves the bucket upward to the platform (13) moving it to a second gripper (15) for it to be placed on a second positioning device (16). The bucket is flushed and tilted by the second gripper over the upper end (19) of the second lifting column (14). It is then placed on a carrying device (18) such that a stack (20) of cleaned and upright buckets is formed.
