<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of setting as a printing subject, predetermined one out of one or more pieces of printing information stored in a memory means, and a setting method for a printing subject. <P>SOLUTION: The printer 1 comprises an ASIC 33 such that the ASIC 33 executes a directory display function and a printing subject determining function based on a control program of a ROM 31. A directory display part 52 displays a directory on a setting screen of an operation panel 3 based on an identification directory in an medium 36a at the time a printing subject designating process is started.
