PURPOSE: To set a proper pause for a synthesized speech generated from an inputted text. CONSTITUTION: A morpheme analysis part 4 takes a morpheme analysis of the input sentence and a merging process part 5 identifies compound words, basic blocks, or a successive basic blocks from the morpheme analytic result according to a merging rule. Then a pause setting process part 6 applies a pause setting result to the identification result to set the position of a pause. The merging rule includes merging conditions for merging morphemes with each other and additional information added to the compound words, basic blocks, or successive basic blocks obtained by merging the morphemes meeting the merging conditions; and the pause setting rule and merging conditions are described by using the additional information. |
