PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance gas barrier properties without marring various superb physical properties of a biaxially orientated polyester product. SOLUTION: The gas barrier properties of the biaxially orientated polyester product are enhanced by thermally treating the product at a temperature falling within the range of between (Tg-55°C) and (Tg-5°C) in a carbon dioxide supercritical fluid or a carbon dioxide subcritical fluid, when the glass transition temperature of the biaxially orientated polyester product is given as Tg(°C).
