<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for oxidizing an alcohol, by which the alcohol can be oxidized with molecular oxygen in the presence of a stable catalyst at a low cost in good operability to produce various oxygen-containing organic compounds such as a ketone, an aldehyde and a carboxylic acid. <P>SOLUTION: This method for oxidizing the alcohol is characterized by bringing the alcohol into contact with the molecular oxygen in the presence of a heteropolyacid compound containing silicon, tungsten and one ruthenium in the skeleton of the heteropolyacid. The heteropolyacid anion in the heteropolyacid compound preferably has a composition represented by the formula: Si<SB>1</SB>W<SB>11</SB>Ru<SB>1</SB>O<SB>39</SB>(Si, W, Ru and O are silicon, tungsten, ruthenium and oxygen, respectively). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
