PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for automatically adjusting the crushing gap of an impact crusher which can be carried out without damaging a hitting plate and/or a bumping plate. SOLUTION: This method for automatically adjusting the crushing gap formed between the tip of the hitting plate 4 arranged on the outer periphery of a horizontal rotor 1 and the bottom end of the bumping plate 7 arranged to be approached to/ separated from the rotor 1 is carried out as follows. The rotation of the rotor 1 is detected while the rotor 1 is made to run idle by a rotary drive 5 through a power- interruptible clutch 6 in such a state that the tip of the plate 4 is in contact with the bottom end of the plate 7. It is detected that the rotation of the rotor is stopped by the contact of the tip of the plate 4 with the bottom end of the plate 7 by approaching the bottom end of the plate 7 to the rotor 1 and then the movement of the bottom end of the plate 7 is stopped. The value of the crushing gap is regarded as zero in this state. After that, while the bottom end of the plate 7 is separated from the rotor 1, the distance moved from the rotor 1 is measured as the value of the crushing gap. When the value of the crushing gap becomes the desired one, the movement of the bottom end of the plate 7 is stopped. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
