PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent jamming when a recording medium is transferred in an opposite direction after cut in a printer having a means for cutting the recording medium. SOLUTION: When an automatic cutting command is received, a final printing line of a paper is sent to a cutting position (step 102), and automatic cutting is carried out (step 104). Then, a flag F is set if paper feeding in the opposite direction is designated (steps 104 and 106). If the flag F is set (step 110) at a time point when a printing command is received afterwards (step 108), paper feeding in the opposite direction (step 112) is carried out, and then printing is executed (step 116).
