LOW-ALLERGEN PLANT CONTAINING TRANSDUCED flo2 MUTATION AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-allergen plant containing transduced flo2 mutation and a method for producing the plant.

SOLUTION: The expression of a gene in a flo2 mutant was analyzed by using a microarray for the exhaustive identification of unknown gene groups controlled by a factor coded by a latent Floury 2 gene and it has been clarified that the flo2 mutant has extremely low productivity of 16 kDa allergen protein. As a result of the detection of 16 kDa allergen protein in the grain of flo2 mutant rice, the decrease of the protein by about 50% or more compared with wild type rice was detected. A hybrid was prepared by using the flo2 mutant as the mother and the wild rice as the father and the quantity of 16 kDa allergen protein in all individuals exhibiting the character of flo2 mutant was decreased to ≤50%. The plant having the character of flo2 mutant and a new species prepared by using the plant as the mother or father for the plant breeding are expected to be useful as low-allergen foods, etc.
