PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool having a chip compressing device at a position just under a machining part of the machine tool. SOLUTION: In this machine tool MC, guide bodies 14, 15, and 16 for guiding chips D downward are disposed around a machining part 20, a net body 23 for trapping large falling objects and passing small chips D is disposed horizontally at the under position 21 of the machining part under the guide bodies, a chip compressing means 30 is disposed at a position 25 just under the net body. The small chips D machined by the machining part 20 and discharged from work W pass instantly through the net body 23, drop into the chip compressing means at the just under position, and are recovered. At this time, the net body passes only through the chips, drops them into the chip compressing means at the just under position, and recovers them. When a large matter such as a tool drops due to any cause, the net body catches it to prevent various accidents and harmful effects caused by dropping of it to the chip compressing means.
