A moniker is provided that accesses already-running instances of objects tha t do not have a resistant state. In one aspect, the objects are associated wit h a programmable logic controller (PLC). The PLC may be a soft PLC that interfaces with a personal computer. A remote connection is provided for suc h that the moniker instantiates objects of PLCs remotely such as over the internet.
