<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an adsorbent which can be applied to a sensor or adsorption device, particularly to a adsorption type heat pump, which has large adsorption and desorption amount of water at 10 to 30% relative humidity and which has pores with a large specific surface area and a uniform size. <P>SOLUTION: When a precursor of a porous body is prepared by mixing a mixture liquid of alkyl amines and water with a solution containing alkoxysilanes, a trivalent metal compound is made present in the reaction system prior to the preparation of the precursor.
