PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sheet material 6 from coming out from a shaft member 1 even upon the application of large force in the axial direction in a coupling method and a coupling structure in which a shaft member 1 having a shaft part 2 and a sheet material 6 are coupled with each other by cauking. SOLUTION: A coupling hole 7 is provided in a sheet material 6, and a rising part 8, which rises obliquely around the coupling hole 7, is formed. On the other hand, an enlarged part 4 is provided on one end side of a shaft part 2 in a shaft member 1, and an intermediate part 5 is provided between the enlarged part 4 and the shaft part 2. In such a state that the intermediate part 5 has been inserted into the coupling hole 7, the rising part 8 is deformed so as to be flattened, whereby the front end constituting the rising part 8 is brought into pressure contact with the outer peripheral face of the intermediate part 5. Further, the intermediate part 5 is pressed in an axial line direction of the shaft part 2 to cause plastic deformation to hold the sheet material 6 between the plastically deformed part and the enlarged part 4.
