PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that the positioning by the contact sensing of the small hole electric discharge machining is not correct or reliable if the diameter of an electrode guide is small, and a small hole electrode is bent or damaged. SOLUTION: The electrode guide of an electrode guide device having the electrode guide to penetrate a tip of a rotating electrode for machining a small hole and guide it to an electric discharge machining unit is formed of a columnar body having a columnar outer peripheral surface which is correctly and concentrically formed in a guide hole having a die guide. The electrode guide is provided on a guide fitting base of the discharge machining unit, and protruded by a predetermined length from a lower end face of the base, and an outer peripheral surface of the electrode guide is automatically connected to one terminal of a contact sensing means. Positioning is performed by the contact sensing between the outer peripheral surface of the electrode guide and a reference ball. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
