PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for treating an organic substance in which the volume of a treating tank can be made large with respect to the size of the apparatus and a reduction mechanism can be easily mounted on and removed from the treating tank without exposing a screw in the treating tank. SOLUTION: The treating tank 1 for storing a carrier for culturing a microorganism, agitating bodies 6 and 7 for agitating the organic substance fed in the treating tank 1 and the carrier stored therein, a motor 12 for driving the agitating bodies 6 and 7, the reduction mechanism 11 for reducing driving force of the motor 12 and transmitting it to the agitating bodies 6 and 7, and a frame 13 fitted with the reduction mechanism 11 are provided. A fixing member 14 is arranged at a position facing to the frame 13 on the inner wall of the treating tank 1 and the frame 13 is screwed on the fixing member 14 from the frame 13 side through the treating tank 1.
