MAPPING APPARATUS AND MAPPING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which accomplishes geometrical reconstruction of celoms by the three-dimensional mapping thereof.

SOLUTION: The apparatus for mapping celomic surfaces 52 of patients is provided with a slender probe 30 having a longitudinal axis, which 30 has a terminal part adapted to be inserted into the celoms. A primary acoustic transducer 47 at the terminal part of the probe 30 is adapted to emit sound waves while the probe 30 stays in the celoms. A plurality of secondary acoustic transducers 46a to 46b are distributed at the terminal part of the probe 30 in the axial direction thereof and adapted to received sound waves after being reflected on the celomic surfaces 52 and generate electrical signals showing the flying time of the sound waves according to the sound waves received.
