<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of a hydrocarbon adsorption/combustion catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: This hydrocarbon adsorption/combustion catalyst is manufactured by depositing cerium on BEA type zeolite and subjecting the cerium- deposited zeolite to heat ageing treatment. The amount of a hydrocarbon to be adsorbed on the manufactured catalyst can be reduced when an engine is stopped, for example, when the temperature of the catalyst is ≤50°C. The catalyst can secure the satisfactory capacity to adsorb the hydrocarbon just after the engine is started. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
