<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording medium which has outstanding ink absorption capacity, high ink absorption rate, superb glossiness and is free from a feathering phenomenon or surface cracks after printing. <P>SOLUTION: A silica-encapsulated hybrid emulsion which is an aqueous dispersion composed of a silica superparticle, especially a particle of a core/shell structure obtained by bonding a vinylic polymer to the surface of a colloidal silica particle, stably dispersed in an aqueous medium, is added to an ink receiving layer. In addition, an undercoat layer composed mainly of silica used together with a gas phase silica or a colloidal silica is formed between a support and the ink receiving layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
