<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a comparatively smaller hole at the end to be plugged of each of exhaust gas flow passages of an exhaust gas cleaning material to be arranged in an exhaust gas passage of an internal-combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust gas cleaning material 1 to be arranged in the exhaust gas passage of the internal-combustion engine is manufactured by plugging an opening of one end of each of at least some of the exhaust gas flow passages 3, 4 of a base material 10 having a plurality of the passages 3, 4 defined by partition walls 2 each consisting of a porous material. This method for manufacturing the material 1 comprises a plugging step of partially plugging the opening to be plugged by gathering the walls 2 defining the opening to be plugged and partially connecting one to another among the gathered walls 2 while leaving small holes 5, 7 each having the opened area smaller than that of the opening to be plugged and larger than the average pore diameter of the pores of the porous material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
