PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle capable of carrying out a normal air conditioning operation effectively utilizing one temperature detection sensor. SOLUTION: In the air conditioner for the vehicle, first and second air conditioning units 2, 3 provided with a plurality of compressors 21-24, 31-34 are installed and a temperature detection sensor 8 for detecting a temperature in a cabin is provided in only any one of the air conditioning units. An activation is subsequently carried out in the order of from the first air conditioning unit 2 by every one according to the order of the activation previously determined in every compressors 21-24, 31-34 at the time of activation of the operation. The temperature detection sensor 8 is installed on the second air conditioning unit 3 different from the first air conditioning unit 2 on which the compressors 21-24 determined so as to be firstly activated are installed.
