PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating oil contained in a drain, in which the capacity of an oil adsorbent can be exhibited satisfactorily by effectively combining the treatment to aggregate oil particles by blowing compressed air with the treatment to adsorb the aggregated oil on the oil adsorbing material and by which an oil separating apparatus can be made compact and the maintenance cost can be made inexpensive and high-quality treated water can be obtained. SOLUTION: This oil separating apparatus comprises: an air blowing tank having a drain inlet, a drain outlet and an air blowing port communicated with an air blowing means; and an adsorption tank which has a drain inlet connected to a pipe of the drain outlet of the air blowing tank and a drain outlet and is packed with the oil adsorbent. The air blowing tank and the adsorption tank are made airtight. A check valve is arranged at the drain inlet of the air blowing tank. This method for separating oil contained in the drain comprises the steps of aggregating minute oil particles contained in the drain by air bubbles of the compressed air and introducing the drain of high pressure as it is into the adsorption tank packed with the oil adsorbent and bringing the aggregated oil into contact with the oil adsorbent.
