PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly active metal-containing catalyst for a hydrogenation process having a uniform grain size and form, a high dispersion degree of the metal, high porosity and uniform distribution of the pore diameter. SOLUTION: The highly active spheric metal-containing catalyst has 10 to 70 wt.% metal content. The catalyst is manufactured by using a mixture of polysaccharide and at least one kind of metal compound and by the method comprising a process of dropping the mixture into a metal salt solution.
