The gas containing gaseous xenon (2) is sent to the enclosure after the animal is introduced in the enclosure. The gas is made to inhale by the animal in sufficient proportion for obtaining partial sleeping of the animal and to slaughter the slept animal. The enclosure contains oxygen and/or nitrogen and air.
