<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform polishing having a small step and no scratch scar, by improving an optical characteristic of a polishing end surface using a polishing sheet and a polishing liquid having a combination having a high polishing characteristic and by setting a return loss to be not more than -57 dB, further about -65 dB, when an optical fiber ferrule is finished and polished. <P>SOLUTION: While slidably contacting an end surface of the optical fiber ferrule 5 formed by inserting and fixing an optical fiber 7 into the center hole of a ferrule 6 with a polishing sheet 1 having a polishing layer 3 containing silica particles and a binder, the polishing liquid 16 of silica slurry containing water and silica particulates having an average grain size not less than 1 nm and less than 20 nm is supplied to the contacting part, and the end surface is finished and polished in a projecting spherical shape. Otherwise, the polishing liquid 16 of silica slurry of pH 8 to 12 containing water and silica coarse particles having an average grain size not less than 20 nm and not more than 500 nm is supplied to the contacting part for polishing. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
