PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detoxicate not only hexavalent chromium in an object of treatment but also cement-derived hexavalent chromium to be easily sealed in a hard solid, when the hexavalent chromium contained in the object of treatment, such as wastewater, incineration ash, sludge, and soil, or in cement used as a solidifying material is detoxicated by electric reduction. SOLUTION: The cement having hardening capacity is added to the object, such as wastewater, incineration ash, sludge, and soil to produce a suspension, and the hexavalent chromium in the suspension is electrically reduced to trivalent chromium. The trivalent chromium in a form of chromium hydroxide is dehydrated together with the cement and treated as a dehydrated cake. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
