<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interlaminar reinforcement type inorganic fiber combined ceramic having remarkably high denseness and high temperature characteristic and capable of being used for a member such as a gas turbine for power generation or aircraft or a high temperature member for a heat exchanger which requires high strength in the lamination direction and a method of manufacturing the interlaminar reinforcement type inorganic fiber combined ceramic. <P>SOLUTION: The interlaminar reinforcement type inorganic fiber combined ceramic is constituted of an inorganic fiber laminated body and 2-40 vol.% interlaminar reinforced phase composed mainly of SiC and existent in a part of the interlaminar part of the inorganic fiber laminated body and the gap among the inorganic fibers. The inorganic fiber laminated body is composed of a fabric and/or a sheet like material of the inorganic fibers which are composed of a sintered structure mainly of SiC, contain at least one kind of a metal atom selected from the metal atom of group IIA, group IIIA and group IIIB, are bonded to each other to have a very densely packed structure in a major part and have a 1-100 nm thick boundary layer present on the surface of the major part of the inorganic fiber and consisting essentially of C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
