<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refractory for fireproof members for continuous steel casting which is low in thermal conductivity, excellent in dissolution resistance and spalling resistance, prevents oxides such as alumina or the like or metal from sticking on the working surface of the refractory during casting and can contribute to safety operation and improvement of steel quality, and to provide a nozzle for continuous steel casting using the refractory. <P>SOLUTION: The refractory for fireproof members for continuous steel casting contains 5 to 30 mass% of carbon, 20 to 90 mass% of SiO<SB>2</SB>component (however, excluding SiO<SB>2</SB>to be generated by oxidization of SiC) as a composition of refractory constituting the body part of a immersion nozzle or a semi- nozzle except for a powder line part, having a thermal conductivity of 10 W/mK or less at 500°C of the refractory.
