PURPOSE: A device and method for preventing the theft of a vehicle is provided to perfectly prevent the theft of the vehicle by operating an alarm unit when a steering column cover is disjointed. CONSTITUTION: A detecting switch(1) is coupled with screws(4) for fixing steering column covers(2,3), and operates an emergency relay(8) and shuts off voltage of a battery(6) supplied to a key switch(5) when the steering column covers are disjointed. An alarm generating unit sounds an alarm by the control of an electronic control unit. An alarm lamp driving unit turns on the light by the control of the electronic control unit. |
