<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PTC material which can be used for forming a high- temperature PTC thermistor that can be used above a temperature of 450°C. <P>SOLUTION: This PTC ceramic is represented by a formula (1) and displays PTC characteristics in a temperature range of from 600 to 1000°C. In the formula (1), M denotes one metal element that belongs to alkaline earth metals and/or rare earth metals, R is, at least, one element selected out of copper, nickel, chrome, manganese, aluminum, zinc, and indium, and x, y, and z are so set as to satisfy formulas; 0≤x<0.1, 0≤y≤1, and 0≤z≤0.1.
