PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive carrier suppressed optical pulse train generating method/device with a small insertion loss, a simple structure and higher performance, and to provide a grating device. SOLUTION: The source optical pulse train having a prescribed pulse period is generated. Aλ/4 phase shift grating is arranged by sequentially connecting a plurality of uniform pitch gratings having substantially same Bragg frequencies via aλ/4 phase shift part. The source optical pulse train is made incident into one end of theλ/4 phase shift grating, reflected light from theλ/4 phase shift grating is wave-guided and a reflected optical pulse train is generated.
