<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow good reading of a read object having a transparent protecting layer on the surface. <P>SOLUTION: An illumination light source 13 and a reading mechanism 14 are provided in a neck bent case 12 having a rectangular reading port 16 on the lower face at the end. The reading mechanism 14 consists of a light receiving element 17 and an imaging lens 18, and its reading optical axis O is made into a state where an inclination of angleθto a perpendicular to the plane of the reading port 16, and its field of view V is set to be equal to or somewhat smaller than the size of the reading port 16. The illumination light source 13 is a planar light source which consists of a LED board 20 having a plurality of LEDs 19 and a diffuser 21 located on the front face side thereof, and it is arranged outside the field of view V of the reading mechanism 14 in almost parallel along the outer edge (the imaging angle) of the field of view V. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
