PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly judge whether or not an image pattern in a two-dimensional image is matched with a reference image pattern without using any frame memory, and to judge whether or not the both patterns are matched with each other based on the two-dimensional image obtained with a small time interval which is close to a real time. SOLUTION: The image signal of a two-dimensional image obtained by an image pickup part 1 is inputted through an image processing part 2 to a start position/stop position detecting part 9, and the start position/stop position on each raster scanning line of each image pattern in the two-dimensional image is detected. The matching of the start position/stop position with the start position/stop position of the reference pattern is judged by a comparing/judging part 10, and it is judged that the same pattern as the reference image pattern is present in the two-dimensional image according to the matching rate, and the result is announced.
