The method of the invention comprises a series of steps where the presence of water and/or leaks through which water can enter a cable joint closure are located using a pressure testing apparatus. The leaks are sealed using a polyurethane sealant which provides a water and gas impermeable barrier. The cable join closure is retested on a regular basis ensuring there is no recurrance of leaks.
