It is intended to provide a method of identifying a compound inhibiting the SUMO-conjugation of Tcf-4 by proteins of the protein inhibitor of activated STAT family (for example, PIASy, PIAS1, PIAS3 or PIASx.alpha.); compounds identified by this method; inhibitors for SUMO-conjugation of Tcf-4 by the PIAS family proteins and Tcf-4 SUMO-deconjugating agents; Tcf-4 transcriptional activity inhibitors comprising the above-described inhibitor s and/or SUMO-deconjugating agents; preventives and/or remedies for colon canc er comprising the above-described inhibitors and/or SUMO-deconjugating agents o r the transcriptional activity inhibitors; a method of inhibiting the transcriptional activity of Tcf-4 characterized by comprising inhibiting the SUMO-conjugation of Tcf-4 by the PIAS family protein and/or deconjugating SU MO- conjugated Tcf-4; and a method of preventing and/or treating colon cancer.
