PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the cleaning of a filter relating to the blow-out of fine dust by an air flow, which is attached onto the surface of the filter in a vacuum cleaner. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes: fine dust removing means 3 for removing the fine dust attached onto the filter by performing control to open/close a changeover valve 4 which introduces an air flow without the dust from the opposite direction of the airstream with the dust; electric machine driving means 5 for driving an electric machine 6 so as to open/close the changeover valve 4; instantaneous current measuring means 7 for measuring the instantaneous current value of the electric machine 6; rotary speed setting means 8 for setting the rotary speed of the electric machine 6; and time measuring means 9 for measuring time when the instantaneous current value being equal to or more than a prescribed value continues. The rotary speed of the electric machine 6 is varied in response to the instantaneous current value of the electric machine 6 and its elapsed time. Thus, the rotary speed of the electric machine 6 is varied, the opening/closing speed of the changeover valve 4 is controlled, and then, the time of the airstream flowing to the filter is controlled.
