<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for monitoring surrounding of vehicle capable of decreasing the effect of distortion caused by visual point conversion even when an image around a vehicle is displayed after being subjected to the visual point conversion. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus and method for monitoring surrounding of vehicle receives a first vehicle surrounding image at a first time by photographing the surrounding of the vehicle and converts a visual point resulting from the vehicle surrounding image with a visual point conversion section 3 into a different visual point to generate a visual point conversion image 11A, and generates a visual point conversion image 11B at a second time while calculating a vehicle moving amount and a moving direction of the vehicle after a lapse from the first time. In the case of generating a composite image, the apparatus overlaps the visual point conversion image 11A and the visual point conversion image 11B on the basis of the calculated vehicle moving amount and moving direction (a), increases the weight of pixel values configuring the visual point conversion image 11B in an overlapped area between the visual point conversion image 11A and the visual point conversion image 11B to be composed to generate the composite image (b) and (c) in the case of composing the visual point conversion image 11A and the visual point conversion image 11B to produce the composite image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
