PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable new nodes to automatically and selectively cope with both of a server system and a distribution system and to obtain a network address by either of the systems to participate in a network. SOLUTION: In this network system consisting of a plurality of nodes Ni and Nx, each node simultaneously has the address obtaining functions of a server system for accepting the network address to be imparted from an address server 1 and a distribution system for allowing the network-participating nodes Ni and Nx to autonomously decide the network address. When the new node Nx participates in the network, an address request message is multi-addressed, and a subsequent address obtaining system is decided alternatively and autonomously from the server system or the distribution system depending on the content of a response and the presence/absence of the response within a prescribed time to obtain address decision or address decision information from the content of the response and the presence/absence of the response.
