PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for image data processing, which easily retrieve an original picture from an index picture and eliminate a need of generating the index picture again even in the case that the original picture has been erased. SOLUTION: A picture recording means records each photographed picture and each of reduction pictures obtained by reducing photographed pictures in a memory card as independent files. A management file for defining the location on the index picture of each reduction picture is generated, and unequivocal correspondence is given to the page number and location information of the index picture between each photographed picture and each reduction picture.
