摘要 <p>A method and device are presented for producing an intensive flow of atoms from an input flow of a molecular gas. The device comprises a discharge cell that is connectable to a direct current power supply and comprises a magnetic field source and an electrodes' arrangement located within a magnetic field created by the magnetic field source. The electrodes' arrangement comprises a cylindrical anode and a multiple-electrode cathode arrangement defining an inter-electrode space for a longitudinal magnetic field region. The multiple-electrode cathode defines at least one self-heating electrode and comprises a first reflective cathode located adjacent the anode cavity and having at least one opening that forms at least one emitting aperture through which the flow is output from the cell, a second reflective cathode formed with a gas inlet opening and having a flat portion accommodated in a spaced-apart substantially parallel relationship with the first electrode, and a rod-like electrode portion axially aligned with the cylindrical anode and aligned with the aperture in the first electrode, the first and second cathodes being electrically connected to each other, said discharge being operable to cause ignition of a discharge including at least an arc Penning discharge.</p>
