The prosthesis consists of a trapezoid component (1), an insert (4) with a friction surface (5) formed by the intersection of two toroid surfaces with orthogonal axes (7, 8), an implant (20) with a second friction surface (21) co-operating with the first, and a fixing pin (30) for holding the implant in the medullary canal of the metacarpal bone. The fixing pin is joined to the metacarpal implant by a connecting piece (40). Apart from the insert the components of the prosthesis are made from titanium or a similar material.
