<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an equalization characteristic capable of dealing with even a change in wavelength characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: In the wavelength equalizer for compensating the deviation of wavelength characteristics in a wavelength multiplexed optical transmission system for transmitting a wavelength multiplexed optical signal via a plurality of optical amplifiers inserted to an optical fiber transmission line, a wavelength characteristic measuring instrument for measuring the wavelength characteristics of the wavelength multiplexed optical signal and a plurality of gain equalizers for equalizing a gain for each gain equalization block including one or more optical amplifiers within each wavelength characteristic measurement block are provided for each prescribed block (wavelength characteristic measurement block) including two or more optical amplifiers inserted to the optical fiber transmission line, and loss characteristics for compensating the wavelength characteristics of the wavelength multiplexed optical signal measured by the wavelength characteristic measuring instrument are weighted in accordance with the respective gain equalization blocks or the number of optical amplifiers within each gain equalization block, and is set to the respective gain equalizers. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
