PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make real-time processing for an access to AV (audio-visual) data possible. SOLUTION: A CPU 17 calculates the permissible time for an error recovery in accordance with the command processing time to enable the real time processing assigned from a host 2 in case of the occurrence of the sector error in the disk access assigned by a command given from the host 2. The CPU 17 determines the calculated permissible time for the error recovery as the error retry time indicating the upper limit time of the error retry. The CPU 17 controls the retry of the sector where the error occurs in the range where the determined error retry time is not exceeded. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
