An elevator comprising a cage 1, a counterweight 2, a rope 20 connecting the cage 1 with the counterweight 2, pulleys 3, 4 carrying the rope 20 and suspending the cage 1 and the counterweight 2, a pair of first guide rails 10 extending in the moving direction of the cage 1 while facing each other through the cage 1, a pair of second guide rails 11 extending in the moving direction of the counterweight 2 while facing each other through the counterweight 2, a first beam 12 connecting the upper end of the pair of first guide rails 10, a second beam 13 connecting the upper end of the pair of second guide rails, and a third beam 14 connecting the vicinity of the middle point of the first beam 12 with the vicinity of the middle point of the second beam 13, wherein the pulleys 3, 4 are fixed to the third beam 14.
