PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biological authentication method that permits selection of identity authentication means suitable for a user's own self and satisfies even an identity authentication level required by an application. SOLUTION: An application server 140, on receiving a service request from a user terminal 110, sends information on the identity authentication level required for the identity authentication to an authentication server 170, making an authentication request. The authentication server 170 receives information on a biological authentication means that can be presented from the user terminal 110, acquires information on the guarantee of security level of the received biological authentication means from a database, and if the required guarantee of security level satisfies the identity authentication level, performs the identity authentication based on the biological information received from the user terminal 110.
