PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a WORM (write-once-read-many) type recording disk playback method for minimizing the time from a reproduction start instruction to the stat of the reproduction of a file positioned at the head. SOLUTION: An optical pickup is moved to the first session, and while information regarding the first session and compressed data are read and stored inside a buffer, a recording capacity in the buffer is monitored at all times. When the recording capacity in the buffer exceeds a prescribed threshold, concurrently with reproduction of the compressed data stored inside the buffer, the optical pickup is moved to the final session position of the compressed data recorded in a disk and file information regarding the compressed data recorded in the disk is read. Then, the optical pickup is moved to an address position on the disk equivalent to the end of the compressed data stored in the buffer before reproduction completion and remaining compressed data not stored in the buffer yet are read and recorded in the buffer.
