PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent cash stored in an automatic teller machine (ATM) from being stolen by using a heavy machine. SOLUTION: In a protection device for the ATM (1), the upper surface of the ATM (1) is flatly formed, a stock room (5) for storing the ATM (1) is formed just under a base (3), a through hole (7) for passing the ATM (1) is formed on the base (3) so as to be connected to the stock room (5), and the ATM (1) is held on the through hole (7) of the base (3) by a holding means (9) in a state that the ATM (1) is always projected from the base (3). The holding function of the holding means is constituted so as to be optionally reset, and when the holding function of the holding means is released, the ATM (1) is dropped into the stock room (5) so as not to be projected upward from the base (3).
