METHOD OF CUTTING RARE EARTH ALLOY

A method of cutting a rare earth alloy with the use of wire saw (20) comprising core wire (22) and, secured thereto by means of resin layer (26), abrasive grains (24). The method includes a step of machining a rare earth alloy by traveling the wire saw while immersing portion of rare earth alloy machined by the wire saw in a cooling liquid whose main component is water exhibiting a surface tension at 25ºC of 25 to 60 mN/m. With respect to the wire saw, the average distance of abrasive grains being adjacent to each other in the direction of length thereof is in the range of 150 to less than 400% based on the average diameter of abrasive grains; the average height of abrasive grain portions protruding from the surface of the resin layer is 70% or less based on the average diameter of abrasive grains; and the partial thickness ratio of resin layer based on the core wire is 40% or less.
