PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve picture quality by making neither a regular pattern nor a worm pattern appear in a dot pattern by a gradation number converting method using a dot dispersion type mask. SOLUTION: The dot dispersion type mask is for converting gradation values of respective pixels of image data with continuous gradations into binary or multi-valued values and has such an array of thresholds that a dot pattern obtained by the conversion has regularity or irregularity.
