LIGHT SOURCE DEVICE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device capable of exhibiting reduced brightness distribution fluctuation and high brightness, and a liquid crystal display device with usage of it.

SOLUTION: This device is provided with an arc tube 20, a discharge medium sealed inside the arc tube 20, and an internal electrode 21 and an external electrode 22 for exciting the discharge medium. The internal electrode 21 is arranged inside the arc tube 20. The external electrode 22 includes a first external electrode 23 and a second external electrode 24 electrically connected. The first external electrode 23 abuts onto an outer surface of the arc tube 20 at plurality of discontinuous first connection parts having different distance from the internal electrode 21. The second external electrode 24 abuts onto the outer surface of the arc tube 20 at a second connection part. The second connection part is near to the internal electrode 21 compared to the first connection part and has a higher surface density than the first connection part.
